What is proper attire at an UpCo Horseshow?

UpCo rules state that casual riding attire is acceptable, except in equitation classes where proper showing attire is required. To Turn "casual" into "proper" you must add a riding coat, shirt with ratcatcher collar or button down with a tie, gloves are prefered in equitation by judges . Shirts should be tucked in with a belt on your pants. Your presentation is important in equitation. the over all impression should be clean and tidy. . When jodpurs are worn garter straps are necessary.

Please note that jeans and slacks are not acceptable casual attire.

In addition, any person mounted on a horse or pony is required to wear an ASTM/SEI certified helmet with the chin strap properly attached. Proper footwear for riding is required. Absolutely no sneakers.

To help make things more clear, examples are pictured below of 'casual' and 'proper' attire

First displayed here is 'Casual Attire'. The main difference is lack of riding jacket. In warm weather shirts long or short sleeve with COLLARS are exceptable. These would be polo shirts, riding shirts or any button down type shirt of conservative color. T shirts,halter tops and tank tops are not exceptable.

HAIR

A word about hair. Hair should be neatly arranged. Braids, ponytails or hair under the hat are all acceptable. . Click here for video showing how to get your longer hair under your helmet if prefered. Small colored bows on braids are fine as long as they are not unusually bright and BIG!
